Web Browser Configuration for Surfing

 

Netscape (v.7 and above) and Mozilla (v.1 and above) 

  1. Open Netscape or Mozilla on your computer.
  2. Click Edit on the top menu bar. A drop-down menu will appear.
  3. Click on Preferences. The Preferences window will open.
  4. In the Category list on the left side of the Preferences window, double-click on Advanced. Sub-options will appear.
  5. Double-click on Proxies. The right side of the Preferences window will change to the Proxies configuration dialog.
  6. Click on Automatic proxy configuration URL:. Then in the input field below it enter:

    7. http://sisig.ateneo.net/browser.pac
    Make sure all other check boxes are unchecked.

  7. Click OK to close the Preferences window.
  8. You're done.

For Added Security

If you are sharing your computer with another person, the following steps are recommended in order to prevent the other person from getting into your web-based accounts and getting other sensitive personal information.

  1. Follow steps 1 to 3 above.
  2. In the Category list on the left side of the Preferences window, double-click on Privacy & Security. Sub-options will appear.
  3. Double-click on the Forms sub-option. The right side of the Preferences window will change to the Forms configuration dialog.
  4. Ensure that the box for Save form data from web pages when completing forms. is NOT checked.
  5. Go back to the Category list on the left side and double-click on the Passwords sub-option. The right side of the Preferences window will change to the Passwords configuration dialog.
  6. Ensure that the box for Remember passwords is NOT checked.
  7. If the box above was previously checked, you may want to check if some of your passwords have already been saved. Click on the Manage Stored Passwords button. The Password Manager window will open.
  8. If the Passwords Saved tab shows saved passwords, click on the Remove All button.
  9. Click OK to close the Password Manager window.
  10. Click OK to close the Preferences window.
